Shino Glaze

Originating in Japan, Shino glazes are captivating, but unpredictable too.  Glaze reactions can vary piece to piece, firing to firing sometimes resulting in brilliant colors while other times not.    At times, Shino produces eye-catching creams and reds/oranges that are subtle and smooth.  It can also produce pockmarks that speak of rustic beauty and effect an earthy feel.  Sometimes, Shino glazes also produce grays and blacks when carbon is trapped during the reduction firing.  Though Shino can be temperamental, it doesn’t stop me from using it over and over again.  The beauty is in its unpredictable nature, and the opportunity to touch perfection.
